Understand why compounds with giant ionic lattices have high

melting and boiling points

Compounds have high melting and boiling points because of a  giant repeating lattice, made up of positive and negative charged between anions and cations held together by strong electrostatic forces of attractions which requires a huge amount of energy to vibrate enough to break the bonds.
